ATSF GP35 2923 and GP35 2861 are the lead units in a 9 unit power consist for this manifest freight which is passing through Edison, CA on an early December 1988 morning while SP was switching units around to assemble a power lashup to head up Tehachapi grade. Perhaps some of these 4 axle units were returning from Barstow inspection/maintenance to San Joaquin valley assignments, or perhaps they were just power short in the valley or the bay area.
