ATSF Dash B40-8 7431 leaves Raton NM to take its intermodal train up the pass in October 1995.

ATSF Dash 8-40B 7431 leaves Raton, NM and starts up the grade toward Raton Pass with an intermodal train on a late afternoon in October 1995. This was one of a few trains that were detoured over the Raton Pass line due to the double track construction work on the Belen cutoff. These intermodals had a high enough power to weight ratio to tackle the stiff grade with no additional helpers. Once over the pass it's basically downhill or flat all the way to Chicago.
