ATSF C40-8W 806 along with GP60M 134, GP60 4013 and GP40X 3807 climb Ash Hill at MP 685 (685 miles west of Belen, NM) in May 1993. At that time, 806 was just over one year old and the transition from 4 to 6 axle power on the fast trains was beginning. Even though the GP60's were new power, the trains were getting longer and heavier and six axle power was starting to take over. Today the 4 axle power is seen mainly on work trains and locals although if needed they can still occasionally be seen on premier trains.
