BNSF 1640 and 1611 head east from Beevers, NM on April 4, 2011.

BNSF SD40-2's (SD39-2's ??) 1640 and 1611 head east out of Beevers, NM where they had been waiting, on April 4, 2011. The 1640 has a stenciled paint date of 3-87, so its paint is 24 years old but still looks ok considering the paint age. The 1611 appears to have been repainted in 1985 and its paint isn't quite as good. There is some confusion regarding these locomotives and their actual horsepower. They may have been derated to 2300 hp and then rerated at their full 3000 hp in which case they are still "real" SD40-2's. Some SD40-2's have evidently had their 16 cylinder 645 prime mover replaced with a 12 cylinder motor, but as these haven't been rebuilt, they are probably still SD40-2's. These two units are doing work related to the Abo canyon construction site.
