Into the Mojave: BNSF C44-9W 4397 is the final unit on this eastbound intermodal in the Mojave desert on November 17, 2011. In the distance, the stark beauty of the desert is evident. The train is rounding the curve at MP 680 not far from Siberia, CA. This train is descending from the summit at Ash Hill. This is the same train as the previous image. The third unit is another C44-9W, 5072. The second unit is an ES44C4, 6467 (identified by the extra air cylinders on the trucks). The lead unit is the ES44CW 7889. MP 680 is just over five miles from the Ash Hill summit.
