BNSF (ex ATSF) SD40-2 6769 near Lodge Grass, Montana on July 19, 2005.

BNSF 6769 (ex ATSF 5110) SD40-2 leads a manifest freight west near Lodge Grass, Montana on July 20, 2005. The ATSF Yellowbonnet paint is not bad considering this unit was renumbered to BNSF in 1998. Another eclectic BNSF locomotive lashup ATSF, MRL, BNSF, BN Whiteface. In the ever more homogenizing of Class 1 fleets, BNSF does offer some relief, although the clock (weathering) is ticking on old paint schemes. The Powder River Division provides some interesting motive power, not to mention manned helpers both east and west of Sheridan. A great line to photograph with interesting motive power and awesome scenery. While its train frequency may not equal some of the better known lines, the Big Horn Subdivision is a gem.
