BNSF ES44DC 7420 eases down Cajon Pass at MP 58 on October 29, 2008.

BNSF ES44DC 7420 leads a long stack train down Cajon Pass on a beautiful fall day, October 29, 2008. The 7420 was less than 6 months old at the time the picture was taken. This stack train is a long one and has two distributed power units on the rear to keep it under control on the down grade. The train is descending on what used to be primarily the "up" main. However with the addition of the new 3rd track (to the right of the train), there is more flexibility in operation and when traffic allows, downhill trains use the newer alignment which allows a faster descent than the original "old" main, which at this point is several hundred feet to the right of this picture.
