BNSF 7499 passes a soon to be retired ATSF signal bridge at Dalies, NM on February 9, 2012.

The end is near! BNSF ES44DC 7499 and C44-9W 5322 pass the iconic ATSF signal bridge at the west approach to Dalies junction at Dalies, NM on February 9, 2012. Earlier this day I had been photographing near Suwanee and Rio Puerco, further west toward I-40 and I noticed that signal crews were replacing non shrouded color light signals and wondered if Dalies junction's time had come for the searchlight signals and the signal bridges to be replaced with modern standard signals. Here is the answer. The shrouded signals turned to field are already on and its just a matter of time until the switch is made and the last vestiges of ATSF signaling on the transcon west of at least Clovis, NM are gone. First it was the semaphores, and now the last of the searchlights (which are really semaphores without blades and thus have many moving parts) are history. Dalies junction has had three cantilever signal bridges which includes one for the Isleta cutoff to the Raton line, as well as several mast searchlights.
