DSNG K-37 497 storms up the Animas River Valley in May 1984.

DSNG K-37 497 storms up the Animas River Valley in May 1984. This was the last operational K-37. It was later traded to the Cumbres and Toltec for a 480 series 2-8-2. This locomotive was simply too heavy for the Silverton line's track and bridges. When owned by the D&RGW, the 470 series locomotives were the largest on the branch. Durango & Silverton uses 480 series 2-8-2's as their primary power. The K-37's boilers were standard gauge C-41 locomotive boilers.
