The DSNG K-37 497 arrives in Silverton in July 1984. This was the first year that the 497 operated on the Durango & Silverton NG RR. The engine caused more wear than the 480 series K-6's and was traded to the Cumbres & Toltec in 1991 for the then inoperable K-36 482. The 497 operated from 1984 through 1991 on the DSNG although like the K-36's it had never operated from Durango to Silverton during the D&RGW years.
