View of the SP Bakersfield yard turntable and adjacent tracks in May, 1989. Locomotives in view, from right to left are: SP 3784, GP9R built as SP 5787; SP 7496, SD45R; SSW(Cotton Belt) SD45T-2 9265 (was to be renumbered to UP 4880 after the merger, but was retired first in October 1999). SP GP9R 3342. This was typical power seen in the area at that time. Local valley runs used GP9's while runs over Tehachapi used the SD45's, SD45T-2's as well as the SD40T-2's, many of which had been rebuilt by then.
