Southern Pacific SD40-T2 8247 along with 4 other units assembling the hotshot "Oilcan" tank train at the loading facility north of Bakersfield, CA in April 1987. The oil was transported to the Shell facility at Wilmington, CA. This train was the highest priorty train on the line via Tehachapi, Mojave and into LA at that time. When the loaded train reached Bakersfield another group of mid train helper units would be cut into the train to give it the power needed to get up the grade to Tehachapi.
