UP SD40's 2964 and 2954 bring their local over the Kate Shelly High Bridge on April 15, 2006.

Union Pacific SD40's 2964 and 2954 (both former CNW locomotives) bring their 21 car local across the Kate Shelly High Bridge west of Boone, Iowa on April 15, 2006. The bridge over the Des Moines river is double tracked, but was limited to one train at a time until recent work was completed. Now two trains can occupy the bridge at the same time. While the bridge in this image looks long, it's actually only about two thirds of the span. The following image shows the same train on the entire span. Before this train finished crossing the bridge a loaded coal train started its crossing on the other track.
