Union Pacific SD40-2's 3294, 3278 and 3424 form a classic 1970's-80's UP power set. By this time the SD40's were late in their teens and newer power had bumped them for the most part from the hot trains. Taking their lesser assignments in stride they continued to soldier on into the 21st century, although their ranks are much thinner now on the UP. This train is taking the final curve on the UP at Daggett, CA before entering Santa Fe trackage and proceeding over Cajon Pass down into the Los Angeles basin on an early May 1993 Mojave desert morning.
