Union Pacific SD40-2 3442 arrives at Summit, CA with its eastbound manifest freight in April 1988. The SD40-2 has proven to be "old reliable" for the Union Pacific. These classic locomotives, some of whom are pushing 40 years of age just continue to roll on. In 2010, UP designated 500 SD40-2's for yet another major servicing to extend their useful life well into the future. While their days of hauling intermodals at 70mph are probably over, they will continue to soldier on, day after day. The 3442 however, has left UP's roster and has gone to the Wisconsin Southern as the WSOR 4008.
