Union Pacific SD70ACe 8557 passes Union Pacific SD70M 2001, one of two UP locomotives painted in a special 2002 Winter Olympics livery, on June 9, 2001. The 8557 is a distributed power unit (DPU) on the rear of the 5347's train (pictured in the previous frame). This picture was taken near the corner of Hickory and Union streets and really shows the resolving power of the Sony 70-400mm SSM G lens. Using the A55, the lens is effectively a 600mm lens. The trains are several blocks away on a summer day with its attendant distortion, and the bridge over the Kansas River is quite a bit farther. I am really impressed with this lens.
Sony SLT-A55V - 1/500 sec. - f/7.1 - ISO 200 - Sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G SSM lens @ 400mm (effectively 600mm). Processed with DXO Optics Pro 7 and Adobe Photoshop CS5.
