UP 9048 brings its train through Manly, Iowa on June 4, 2005.

Union Pacific C40-8 9048 rumbles through Manly, Iowa toward Albert Lea, MN and Minneapolis with a large cargo on the first car. The early C40-8's are 17 years old and still doing reliable duty on this warm June 4th 2005. This railroad line is the old Rock Island spine line. Manly was an important junction with another Rock Island line which is now the Iowa Northern. The Chicago Great Western also headed north west from about this point. The M&StL also used the Rock Island line from Manly as far north as Albert Lea on its way to Minneapolis.
